Mazda Considering a New ‘Hyper’ Hot Hatch
Previously, the boss of the Mazda corporation made it clear that there would be no Mazdaspeed version of the redesigned 2019 Mazda3. However, while the idea of a new Mazdaspeed model has been thoroughly shut down, it does seem that Mazda is interested in producing a hot hatch version of the 2019 Mazda3, only with a new namesake.
2019 Mazda3 Hot Hatch New Name
Currently, this hot hatch version of the 2019 Mazda3 has not been confirmed, but concepts are rumored to be in development. Therefore, a new moniker is also under wraps. Therefore, Mazda seems to be exploring their options.
2019 Mazda3 Hot Hatch Engine
Previously, we talked about the engine options being developed for the 2019 Mazda3. However, upon its release, these additional engines weren’t made available for the American automotive market. Instead, the standard SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L inline 4 engine was made standard across all trim levels. The SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L inline 4 engine produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.
If a 2019 Mazda3 hot hatch is to be developed, a likely choice of engine will be the SKYACTIV®-G turbocharged 2.5L inline 4 engine found within the Grand Touring and above trims of the 2019 Mazda6, the 2019 Mazda CX-5, and the 2019 Mazda CX-9. This engine option produces up to 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Inside a 2019 Mazda3 build, that’d make for quite an exciting ride.
