When Will Android Auto Be Available for Mazda Models
Android Auto is Google’s car connectivity interface, allowing you to connect your phone to your vehicle, and displaying information in a way that is easy to comprehend and interact with on the road. Some Android phone users may have been waiting for this technology for a long time, so when can we expect it? And most importantly for us Mazda drivers, when will Android Auto be available for Mazda models?
Information, so far, is limited. There has been some discussion online over which auto manufacturers will be offering Android Auto in their vehicles. We do know this, though: At the time of this post, Mazda is in fact listed as an auto manufacturer that will carry Android Auto in the future.
Whether we will see Android Auto arrive in Mazda models within weeks, months or year is still uncertain. For now, there has been no official or definitive word from Mazda about Android Auto capabilities in future models if, or when, it happens.
As is, the Mazda Connect Infotainment System is an impressive feature in many Mazda vehicles today. Should Android Auto be added as a connectivity feature, we could be looking at such features as phone notifications displayed on the vehicle’s info screen, Google Maps navigation, Google Play Music, voice commands and more for Android phone users.
On a model like the 2015 Mazda 3, the Mazda Connect Infotainment System displays information on a 7-inch color touchscreen display. It allows for internet radio integration, voice reply for SMS text messaging and more.
So, when will Android Auto be available for Mazda models? All of the details still remain to be seen, but as always with Mazda vehicles, the future looks bright. For now, be sure to return to the Mazda of Lodi blog for updates on this topic, as well as Mazda news and automotive information.
I have had the Mazda 6 2014 and now 2016 models and my 2016 does not offer the capability for “voice reply for SMS text messaging ” unless it is so well hidden I have not been able to find it. They offer only the ability to choose from a sorely lacking list of canned responses. If there is an option to respond via voice I would REALLY like to know how! I also HATE HATE HATE that they took out the real time traffic that was in the 2014. With my commute from NJ to NY every day not having this is a HUGE inconvenience and I have to rely on my Android phone to check traffic on Google Maps. How stupid is that? For me, this makes the nav system in the 2016 basically useless. Couple that with a lot of annoying quirks in the new infotainment unit and I am may seriously rethink getting another Mazda for my next lease in two years.
I totally agree. I just got a new 2016 Touring Mazda 6 and the car is great except for the electronics. The navigation is disconnected and dead wrong most of th time even with map updates – via an SD card of all things!. I feel like I’m in a car from 5+ years ago. I sure hope they provide a software upgrade to include Android Auto. I went from a Honda to the Mazda and feel like I took a giant leap backwards in technology. Oh well, I always have my phone sitting right there on the dash to get me where I need to go. This will be the last Mazda I ever buy.
