Mazda MX-5 Miata Concepts Design Features at SEMA 2016
For those who aren’t familiar with it, SEMA stands for Specialty Equipment Marketing Association, and it is a show that takes place in Las Vegas each year. Last year, Mazda impressed with some unique Miata design concepts, and it appears that some new Mazda MX-5 Miata concepts with their own unique design features have been created for the SEMA Show in 2016.
The two concepts go by the names of MX-5 Miata Speedster Evolution and MX-5 RF Kuro, which is based on the new MX-5 RF retractable fastback set to release next year. Let’s look at each one individually down below.

MX-5 Miata Speedster Evolution Design and Specs
The MX-5 Speedster debuted at the 2015 SEMA Show, and you’ll no doubt notice the similarities between that model and the Speedster Evolution concept. The Speedster Evolution, however, is painted in a more sophisticated white color.
Still, it retains the original Speedster’s spirit of pure driving with no unnecessary amenities. Despite the fact the original Speedster dropped 150 pounds from the stock Miata soft-top, Mazda designers and engineers managed to shed even more equipment by replacing what remained of the dashboard gauges with a digital display, as well as replacing the original 25.1 pound stock battery with a lighter one that weighs only 4.5 pounds. This all amounts to a 350-pound total weight reduction compared to the production model.
MX-5 RF Kuro Design and Specs
While the Evolution was just as the name suggests… an evolution of the Speedster concept from last year, the MX-5 RF Kuro is brand new. This new concept adopts technology from the MX-5 Global Cup racecar, like its adjustable suspension and its Brembo dual-piston front brake calipers.
Still, as Mazda explains, it was designed to come in a “street-focused package.” It is painted in a semi-metallic Satin Black Metallic color. Under the hood, it also receives a 6 – 7 horsepower increase thanks to the OpenFlash Performance center exit exhaust.
We’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking for the design features on these SEMA 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata concepts, but be sure to return to the Mazda of Lodi blog for more of the latest Mazda news.

before. He was a bad person overall and did far more harm than good, but in some way or another he is responsible for the existence of some very great things. He also dragged Germany up out of the gutter it had been kicked into by WWI’s victorious Allies…and then left the Fatherland in an even deeper one in 1945.
