What Are the Safety Benefits of LED Headlights?

So, what’s the big deal about standard LED headlights anyway? Are they really that great? Well, for one, they certainly look better than your normal halogen headlights, which is enough for many drivers. But there are also some safety benefits to having them too, which is important in a family-hauler like the CX-9.

According to Mazda, the CX-9’s low beam LED headlights produce 900 lumens per unit. Of course, that doesn’t mean much to the everyday driver, but considering that that’s twice the output of a comparable halogen headlight, it’s easy to get the picture. In fact, the CX-9’s LED headlights are roughly 35% brighter than standard halogens. Furthermore, the light penetrates the darkness 10% further than even the more high tech xenon HID units.

There are also benefits to the LED taillights. You may not realize it, but the LED taillights on the 2016 CX-9 can light up faster than halogen bulbs, which can be a great benefit when having to apply the brakes suddenly.
