Even if you’re not tasked with making the Thanksgiving turkey this year, there’s a good chance you’ll have to bring a dish to pass — or at least help out in the kitchen. We put together a list of some of our favorite side dish recipes that will be sure to impress family and friends this Thanksgiving.
Side Dish Recipes for Thanksgiving 2017
- Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- Peel and evenly-dice (3) pounds of potatoes, and then boil with (2) tablespoons of salt
- Once the pot is boiling, reduce the heat for a rolling boil until the potatoes will mash easily with a fork
- In a medium saucepan, heat (2) cups of half and half with (4) cloves-worth of minced garlic until simmering
- Drain the water from the potatoes and combine them with the half and half and garlic mixture
- Mash the potatoes by hand or with a machine for a creamier texture
- Optional: Add (6) ounces of grated parmesan cheese and top with chives
- Homemade Stuffing
- In a large skillet, melt (1) stick of butter
- Next, add (2) cups each of diced onions and celery, along with (1) tbsp minced sage and thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste and cook for (5) minutes
- Add (3) cups of turkey broth and bring to a simmer
- In a large bowl, beat (2) eggs and mix with (1/4) cup of chopped parsley
- Cut and cube (16) cups total of stale, white bread and add them to the eggs
- Combine the eggs and bread mixture with the broth in a buttered baking dish
- Cover and bake at (375) degrees for (30) minutes
- Lastly, remove the cover and bake for an additional (30) minutes
- Green Bean Casserole
- Combine (1) can of condensed cream of mushroom soup with (1/4) cup of milk and (1/4) tsp of black pepper in a (1 1/2) qt baking dish
- Add (4) cups of fresh green beans (or 2 cans of cut green beans, drainer) and (2/3) cups of fried onions
- Bake at (350) degrees for (30) minutes
- Stir and sprinkle another (2/3) cups of fried onions
- Bake an additional (5) minutes, or until the fried onions are golden brown
