Lane Keep Assist System technology
Lane Keep Assist* (LAS) is an active safety technology that helps to provide appropriate steering assistance. This system lets drivers choose from two options, Lane-Trace, which provides steering assistance in order to help keep the vehicle centered in the lane, and Lane Departure Avoidance, which becomes active if the vehicle begins to leave its lane.
Lane Departure Avoidance helps to avoid unintentional lane departures by providing steering assistance to return the car toward the center of the lane if the system predicts that the vehicle is about to stray from its lane.
Lane Trace reduces the burden of driving by providing continuous steering assistance to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. Lane Trace helps guide drivers toward a steering angle that matches the curvature of the road around bends. This option differs from Lane Departure Avoidance by activating sooner.
This system is closely related to the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). LDWS detects line marking on the road surface and warns the driver of unintentional lane departures.
It is important to note that these systems may be affected by a variety of factors including weather conditions, and road conditions. *LAS is designed to alleviate the burden of driving and reduce damage resulting from accidents and is predicated on the driver operating the vehicle in a safe manner. It is important to be aware of the limitations of the system and to drive safely at all times.
