2017 Mazda CX-5 Design Changes
One of the biggest changes made to the Mazda CX-5 for the 2017 model year is in the design department. Those who know Mazda and the current Mazda lineup will no doubt see its similarities to other Mazda designs while also immediately noticing that some key exterior features have changed.
To start, the CX-5 appears sleeker than ever, and indeed, the 2017 model has a lower center of gravity to give off a powerful stance. Despite this sleek look, the front grille actually appears bolder, as Mazda has done away with the horizontal slats in exchange for a grille design similar to the honeycomb style the CX-5 used to have. In this case, however, the grille is made up of triangular shapes.
We’ll let the photos do the rest of the talking, but before we do, it’s important to also note that the 2017 Mazda CX-5Â will be offered in a new paint color based on the popular Soul Red color. It’s known as Soul Red Crystal and uses a three-layer paint process for a deeper, richer appearance.
New Human Machine Interface
A number of new tech features make their way to the Mazda CX-5 for 2017. Among them is a new Active Driving Display, which actually projects driving information onto the windshield rather than a pop-up screen for easier visibility. The 7-inch center infotainment display should also be easier to see, as it now sits atop the dashboard.
Moreover, the Multi-Information Display that sits to the right of the instrument cluster now has a high-resolution 4.6-inch color TFT liquid crystal display. In all, this all-new CX-5 is one high tech vehicle.
Performance Changes to the 2017 Mazda CX-5
As far as engine options go, we don’t expect any changes. Mazda has stated that the 2017 Mazda CX-5 will still have the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter SKYACTIV®-G engines, though official power output figures have not been made available to confirm whether or not horsepower and torque will change. A SKYACTIV®-D diesel engine is also listed, but we are unsure that this diesel option will actually make it over here to the U.S.
One change that we will see, however, is the addition of the G-Vectoring Control system. This technology can adjust engine torque in response to steering input, delivering better control and a more relaxing driving experience.
