2014 Mazda3 Green Car of the Year
The 2014 Mazda3 is already making quite a splash. Despite only being available for the last 30 days, the popular Mazda sedan has already been named a finalist for the 2014 Green Car of the Year award.
The 2014 Mazda3 Green Car of the Year nomination comes courtesy of the Green Car Journal. The publication has released a list of the Top 5 Green Cars for 2014, and Mazda3 will compete with the four other finalists for the Green Car of the Year honors.
Of course, the Mazda of Lodi blog has highlighted the fuel efficiency Mazda3 earns through the use of the manufacturer’s signature engine technology. Standardly equipped with a 2.0L, four-cylinder SKYACTIV®-G motor, Mazda3 earns an EPA-estimated 40 highway miles per gallon.
Opposing the 2014 Mazda3 Green Car of the Year campaign are a pair of luxury diesels and two other perennially popular autos. Representing clean diesel are the Audi A6 TDI and BMW 328D. The two other green car hopefuls are Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla.
The winner of this year’s Green Car of the Year Award will be revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20. The 2014 Mazda3 looks to avenge a Mazda nominee from 2013, the SKYACTIV CX-5. The popular Mazda SUV was unfortunately unable to overcome the Ford Fusion and its plug-in hybrid electric model.
The potential for a 2014 Mazda3 Green Car of the Year victory marks an exciting time for Mazda and its signature SKYACTIV technology. Having a Mazda vehicle nominated in back-to-back years proves the cutting edge efficiency of the SKYACTIV approach to gasoline engines. Going up against two luxury diesels and the hybrid version of the Accord is no small task, but Mazda of Lodi knows that the sporty and efficient Mazda3 is up to any task put in front of it.
