What’s New for the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata
It’s official. The first shipment of the all-new 2016 Miata has arrived at the shipping docks, set to go through processing procedures before allowing excited drivers to get behind the wheel. The 2016 Miata has been highly anticipated, causing quite a build up. So, in case you missed something in all the excitement over the past several months, we will show you what’s new for the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata.
It’s been nearly a year since we first announced the reveal of the 2016 Miata, and now the model is on the verge of being released onto U.S. roads. A lot of information has been shared about the model in that time, including details on a new Ceramic Metallic color option.
2016 Mazda Miata Engine Specs and Performance
This year’s Miata will come equipped with a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV engine, which is paired to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The engine can produce 155 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 148 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,600 RPM, and thanks to the Miata’s light weight, it is perfectly capable of providing a thrilling drive and great performance.
The Miata is so light weight, in fact, that it has shed roughly 150 lbs. from the third-generation MX-5. Even with modern technology and safety features added, the model is only 182 lbs. heavier than the original 1990 model. The light weight, along with SKYACTIV efficiency, has also allowed the 2016 Miata to improve fuel efficiency by 25 percent.
Balanced Performance from the 2016 Miata
The 2016 model seems to have just the right blend of power and fuel efficiency, while still providing a fun driving experience that remains true to driving purity. In fact, it’s probably more balanced than you may have imagined. Even while managing to shed a ton of weight from the vehicle, Mazda has managed to create a Miata with 50:50 weight distribution. Combining all these characteristics together is quite a feat, but the 2016 Mazda Miata pulls it off brilliantly.
2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Features
When you drive a car this fun, it can be hard to think about anything else expect the driving experience. But if you want to stay connected to the rest of the world, the Miata has standard Bluetooth. There is also the available touchscreen Mazda Connect infotainment system and available headrest speakers for those times when you want to listen to music while still having the wind whip through your hair with the soft-top down.
