2016 Mazda Miata Spyder and Speedster Concept Features
The 2016 Miata has only just arrived on the scene and already Mazda is experimenting with concept versions of the iconic roadster. For the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Mazda has developed two Miata concept models: the Spyder and Speedster. The 2016 Mazda Miata Spyder and Speedster concept features have some exciting aspects that we would love to see in person.
Features of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Spyder Concept
According to Mazda, the idea behind the Spyder concept was that of a vintage roadster. This is featured in design elements that include bespoke leather interior details. The Spyder concept model also comes in a new Mercury Silver concept paint color. We have to say, this color looks great on the Miata from what we can see so far, and we would be thrilled if it made it to production some day. Other features to be found on the Miata Spyder include lightweight wheels, as well as a carbon fiber aero kit, grille intake and body tonneau cover.
Features of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Speedster Concept
The Miata Speedster concept, on the other hand, is designed to experiment with extremely lightweight and purpose-built performance, just like roadsters from the 1950s. The Speedster also comes in a unique color called Blue Ether.
If you look closely, you’ll notice something else about the Speedster concept. There is no windshield. Mazda, to provide the complete “wind-in-the-hair” driving experience, actually removed the windshield and replaced it with a lightweight deflector. The Miata Speedster also features an Alcantara trimmed interior and carbon fiber doors.

Even though the 2016 Miata is already incredibly lightweight, coming in at just 2.332 lbs., both of these concepts are actually lighter than the production model. The Speedster is particularly lightweight, weighing over 250 lbs. less than the production model.
These concept Miata models are great, but the sad part is that we won’t be able to get behind the wheel. For now, we will just have to admire the 2016 Mazda Miata Spyder and Speedster concept features from a distance. Stayed tuned to the Mazda of Lodi blog for more of the latest news coming from Mazda.
