Mazda3 with Skyactiv Diesel Engine Performance
Choosing a new vehicle takes a quite a bit of consideration and comparing. It’s always nice to have unbiased advice as well, and seeing or listening to things can also help rather than just reading statistics. That being said, we’ve briefly recapped a recent comparison performed between three similar diesel-powered hatchbacks: the Mazda 3 vs BMW 1 Series vs Audi A3.
Unfortunately, Mazda’s 2.2L diesel engine for the Mazda3 is not yet available in the U.S but we do know that it is coming in the very near future. Originally it was said to arrive in the spring of 2014, but since that’s since come and gone, Mazda has hinted that we can expect its arrival soon, perhaps January? Until then, we would like to give you the lowdown on the Mazda3 with Skyactiv diesel engine performance.
We wanted to share this three-way comparison, because driving a Mazda really is unlike any other vehicles out there. Under the Mazda3’s hood we find the 2.2L diesel that is capable of 150 HP, while under the BMW’s is a 2L that manages 116 HP, and finally there is the Audi A3 with a far less powerful 1.6L diesel.
One of the most fortunate things about the Mazda’s diesel is that more power doesn’t mean it sucks up more fuel. It actually uses the same amount as the less powerful BMW engine, and is cleaner. Drivers who are looking for the most efficient ride, and aren’t concerned with sluggish performance will be happiest with the Audi’s option then.
The Mazda3 is peppy and alive, with highly acute responsive steering. It feels lightweight and agile, almost as if you’re behind the little MX-5 roadster. This is a vehicle you’re truly going to enjoy driving, and plus its extremely practical.
If you’re curious to see how the other two compare, and how rear seating looks/feels as well as how the cockpit is designed and displayed, we would highly suggest checking out the video below. And if you are interested in taking the Mazda3 for a test drive, we would like to welcome you here to Mazda of Lodi!
